This is a video of a Great Horned Owls nest on the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge. The adults have shared the egg incubation since early February and after early weeks of raising the newly hatched owlets, the parents are not on the nest 24/7. These first photos show one of the owlets semi awake, preening and moving about the nest. Their is another sleeping in front of this owlet and possibly even a third sleeping unseen to the right and rear. Tiny white downy feathers cover the upper and lower eye lid areas giving a weird look when the eyes are closed.
